The “Type 2 Diabetes and Hypertension Risk” demonstrator

Self-assessment tool for non-communicable diseases

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) or hypertension have become significant health concerns worldwide. How can we use existing datasets to predict the risk of these NDCs for individuals? This is the challenge that this demonstrator addressed. We developed better performing algorithms to predict the risk of T2D and hypertension and to build a personalised feedback tool. Those algorithms are based on data from the Food4Me project and the Feel4Diabetes study involving > 3500 individuals from 11 EU member states.

The resulting app called HEALTHWISE (Hypertension and Type 2 Diabetes Risk Score Calculation With Integrated Support for Exercise and Dietary Recommendations to Achieve Weight-loss Objective) is a self-assessment tool for consumers to determine the risk of a person being affected by T2D or hypertension based on their anthropometrics and some lifestyle habits. It provides personalised recommendations for diet and exercise to achieve weight-loss goals, taking into account the person’s preferences and habits.

Target audience

HEALTHWISE is mainly designed for consumers; some functions can also be used by researchers as the tool collects new citizen data.

Access

HEALTHWISE is currently accessible through the test server: http://83.212.125.74:3000/.
It will eventually be moved to a subdomain of
hua.gr.

HEALTHWISE was developed by the Harokopio University of Athens.
